À propos de l'événement

The Best of Two Worlds was released in 1976 by Columbia Records. The album reunites Stan Getz and João Gilberto . Their last collaboration was over 10 years ago on Getz / Gilberto Vol. 2 . Heloisa Buarque who was married to João Gilberto, sings the vocalizations in English.

Stan Getz is one of the most important jazz saxophonists. Leader of the cool school, he combines a soft and hushed sound brought by the innovative playing of his elder Lester Young. Tender, ethereal, elegant, his music contrasts with the harshness of the disciples of Coleman Hawkins, the rawness of the blues and the virtuoso harshness of bebop. She had a major influence on the evolution of jazz, through the musicians of the West Coast. In the mid-1950s, when hard bop supplanted cool jazz, Stan Getz evolved within his own style, towards a more virile expression. Its sound expands; his perfect technique allows him a more total exploitation of the resources of the instrument; he mixes sweetness and punch, becomes a complete artist, improviser always in verve, vehement and refined, assuming the most ambitious tasks as the most routine, at ease as well with Dizzy Gillespie or Chet Baker as with string orchestras or Brazilian rhythms.

João Gilberto is considered the main creator of bossa nova . In 1958, he was very successful in Brazil with the song Chega de saudade, but it was not until 1964 that his success became international with his interpretation of A Garota de Ipanema (The Girl From Ipanema), accompanied by Stan Getz. Since then, this song has been covered in various languages by many prestigious artists such as Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole or Ella Fitzgerald.
